Take a close look to see if the basic supply electricity provider offers a basic heating electricity tariff. It is often well hidden, as it sometimes is around 11-12cts.

According to our homepage, it is 25.8 ct/kWh, so it is not a saving.

Currently, it seems that it is not really worth it. The question would still be whether one should invest the money for the space in the cupboard?

I have had a second meter for almost 20 years. In the first 10 years, there was even an additional 15% on the discounted electricity. The basic fee was initially €50 and is now €90/a. Unfortunately, the price difference is currently so small that it no longer covers the basic fee. Overall, it was really worth it, especially because we had not yet brick-clad the house in the first 5 years (higher consumption). Due to a few changes, e.g. integration into Home Assistant, etc., consumption has decreased so much that today I would not install a second meter anymore. For a new building that probably requires significantly less electricity, it already seems uninteresting even without photovoltaics.

I have to be very surprised as well. Here, the heat pump tariff is 11 cents below the regular electricity tariff. In return, you have to agree to be shut off in certain situations. And even with this cheaper electricity price of 25 cents/kWh, it takes decades for it to pay off compared to natural gas at 10 cents/kWh :p

What a horror electricity price for heat pumps including the penalty shutdown. In most parts of the country, you can already get "normal" electricity from 24,x cents. That’s exactly why you usually don’t need heat pump electricity. Usually, but not always. But what pays off compared to natural gas? 10,000 kWh natural gas = 2,500 kWh electricity for the heat pump. So €1,000 versus €625 (annual performance factor 4 with 25 cents/kWh). In new buildings and with energy policy prospects (CO2 pricing, phase-out of fossil fuels, photovoltaics on the roof), I see no reason at all to rely on natural gas anymore. Added to this are massive price increases for gas heating systems (partly 60-80% from 2021 to the current key date) and falling prices for heat pumps and photovoltaics.

We all don’t have crystal balls and even without the squabbles of our federal government, no one can predict where the prices for electricity or gas or [WP and gas heating] are going. However, I can calculate the bill for the last 19 years and in terms of total costs, the gas heating is significantly too expensive in my case.
