Our first and second biggest problem was that we want the large bathroom (with bathtub) on the ground floor as well as our bedroom. This significantly increases the floor area.
Is there a specific reason why the bedroom has to be on the ground floor? Usually, the sleeping rooms are separated from the living rooms. That way, guests don’t "accidentally" end up in the bedroom ;) . Additionally, parents often want to be near the kids at night. With us, a little one always goes on a nighttime wander to then settle in our bed. Maybe this could be prevented by having bedrooms on different floors, but one also risks a nighttime fall down the stairs of the sleepy child.
