Okay, so far the trend is clearly positive towards doing the project 60x60 ourselves! Are there also opposing voices or even more votes in favor?

Well, the tiles are just heavy. You should have some experience. But if it’s about basement rooms, I would do it myself. There are usually shelves or cabinets on the surfaces anyway. A few millimeters back and forth shouldn’t matter. Something like that disappears after at most 2 weeks.

I'll put it this way: I was young, had a screed floor with leveling compound, unfortunately with slight waves, but still started working with 30x30 tiles in our main room of about 50 sqm in the townhouse. The walls were completely out of alignment, so I laid out the tiles dry beforehand and had to correct the line several times. Overall, I had 10 meters in length and about 5.50 in width. My husband was the assistant with the adhesive, I was the meticulous craftswoman... in the end, we managed it, and afterwards I had to deal with a slipped disc. Therefore, your parameters are cellar rooms: Go for it! However, I would not choose the cheapest option, because they often tend not to be easy to maintain. My experience. I probably would also not recommend the 60 cm edge length. If there should actually be any disruptive factor, you are more flexible with a smaller format. But I guess that's more pragmatic: why make more work for yourself if it can be done easier? [[The question you should ask yourself is, why do they have to be tiles? Do you have an external access there? Of course, tile is a robust surface (in my opinion the best surface for the ground floor because you are constantly going in and out... terrace and entrance), usually a cellar without direct access is not frequented enough that maybe cheaper design flooring would simply be easier?]]

30x30 or 45x45 would also be preferable for me. But as mentioned in the initial post, unfortunately it is more expensive than 30x60 or 60x60.

Good question, we have already considered that as well.
For three reasons, however, we tend to go with tiles:

[*]In terms of price, design flooring and tiles are about the same. For something reasonably decent, about €15-20 per m² is due in both cases.
[*]Heavy objects (heavy-duty shelving, workbench) leave marks on design flooring and therefore "may" no longer be moved.
[*]The basement has an open access to the ground floor and no perimeter insulation. Nice and cool in humid warm summer weather, but I see the risk of mold under the design flooring.

However, I cannot understand that. Every hardware store has cheap smaller formats for tiles.

Honestly? 30x30 looks poor in comparison and is not easier to lay. When I go to my tile dealer, there are also cheap small formats. But there are always 20-30 clearance models/remaining stock between 10 and 20€ per sqm – formats from 60x60 up to 120x90. So the question of whether to take small formats does not even arise.
