Hello everyone,

I found a floor plan here that already comes very close to my wishes. Please hide the remaining rooms in the floor plan and focus on the hallway. For better understanding, I have also attached the upper floor!

Our planned house will be:
Approximately 11*9m in size
2 full floors
Basement

I already know the staircase shown in the floor plan from my acquaintance and I actually find it optimal for our building project. However, there is one thing that bothers me about him (the acquaintance)! You come through the door, enter the entrance area, and carry the dirt right in front of the stairs. So when he goes from the living area (ground floor) to bed (upper floor), he carries all the dirt up the stairs and further.

So what can be done to avoid having dirt directly in front of the stairs?

So far, I have come up with the following ideas:

Move the stairs back by one meter to take off shoes in front of the stairs

Or

Increase the distance between the door and the stairs by about 50 cm so that shoes can be placed along the wall and a narrow carpet laid along the stair railing side to walk barefoot and clean into the bedrooms.

What do you think about my two ideas and do you perhaps already have positive/negative experiences with them?

Cheers!

Well, then this staircase is probably (for you) not optimal :)

We have almost daily a floor plan debate here on exactly this topic! Have you ever browsed here in the forum?

And yes: of course there are possibilities to position the staircase differently, but then with another floor plan and/or larger built-up area, so different house dimensions.
By the way, this staircase design is the most commonly installed, it’s simply an optimum in terms of price/performance ratio for single-family houses, semi-detached houses, and row houses.

And additionally, the stair positioning can NEVER be considered in isolation, as it always affects the [EG] and [OG]. Therefore, the entirety must be planned.

Our staircase begins about 1.40m after the front door. We start straight and quarter the staircase once at the top. At the bottom, there is then a passage/niche for the wardrobe, WC, or in our case a space for a large cupboard, and at the same time a passage to the office and utility room. I don't like staircases that start directly at the entrance.
