Elevator with 2 floors - who has already implemented that?

We are in an early planning phase. Starting point: We want to build our "retirement home." For this, we are considering 2 options: a bungalow (all on one level) and a two-story house (flat roof). This all depends on the parceling (plot size) and the building envelope as well as the access possibilities. As a preliminary check, we would like to know what an elevator in a single-family house would cost. We are planning it because the whole house should be age-appropriate (i.e., wide doors and a level elevator). The entrance to the elevator should be at least 1 meter wide (wheelchair accessible). Has anyone had experience with this? What costs for the elevator should we expect?

I personally find an elevator only for old age fragility somewhat oversized. A straight staircase, on which one can possibly install a stairlift, should be sufficient. Best to build the bungalow

For old-age frailty you might be right, but as the OP already wrote, and for example if the house is designed for wheelchair accessibility, then such a stairlift is a hassle (that is, if you depend on the wheelchair)..

In our street, two elevators have already been built and Nr. is currently under construction. Crazy.. but they are all houses that I estimate at >1 million (just the house!).. It works. But all of them have a basement (probably necessary for the technology)..

I only have experience with industrial elevators, but I would estimate the elevator to be in the range of 20-80k€ depending on the equipment. Depending on what you want.

The ongoing maintenance costs should definitely not be overlooked. In addition to elevator maintenance, you also need a permanent emergency service. You do not want to starve in an elevator that has gotten stuck.

These things do not necessarily need a cellar, a pit about 0.5-1 m deep is sufficient, possibly even less.

It might also be worth considering to just plan for the elevator now and build the shaft for it, and only install the elevator when you really need it. (hopefully never)

Whether you really need 1 m wide doors is questionable. Wheelchairs and walkers also fit through a 90 cm door. The 1 m doors already have a very hospital-like look, but are necessary there because of the beds. You don't do that at home.
