I don't want to start a new thread and this is the most appropriate place: Does anyone know how long the building authority has to keep old building permits or the building file? I assumed that due to the 'lifespan' of houses it should be a fairly long period, but I was told that the building file from 1955 no longer exists, it's too old...

Ask at the city archive. That's where my building file was, going back to 1910, with all correspondence.

Update from us on the actual topic of the thread here: We received our building permit after exactly 2 months. This corresponds to the deadline specified in the Landesbauordnung BW. So everything is fine. The people at the LRA were very nice and competent. We asked 2 questions by email and they were answered promptly and clearly. Enzkreis.

In Berlin, by the way, after the deadline expires, an approval by fiction would occur. Standard deadline without inquiries here is 3 months, extended to 6 months by Corona regulation, which you now probably routinely exhaust, regardless of whether there are still questions or not. With me, you haven't done that yet (I think it was 4 months), but with my neighbor, you fully exhausted it + unnecessary inquiries. Since my general contractor definitely wanted to wait for both approvals, our construction period also started delayed.

You lucky ones. We are now at 5.5 months and it will take another 1.5 months. The problem for us, however, is the conversion. The forestry authority has meanwhile sent the 4th request for additional information. As if they couldn’t request everything all at once...
