Drop mailbox, doorbell panel...

am I in the right topic here? It's not exactly 'interior finishing,' but it has a bit to do with 'knocking down a wall'...
Where would you place a mail slot and a doorbell panel at this entrance?

a) both where they are now (next to the door handle, a bit hard to see)
b) both where the black box is drawn
c) mailbox where the black box is drawn, and doorbell above, where the mailbox is now

The mailbox goes into the office, where private mail for the house is also allowed to be delivered. Inside the office, both variants would be easy to implement.

With the 'lower' installation it might be tight to still have the mail come through at an 'acceptable' height inside (floor level inside is the same as the top step outside), since the mail shouldn’t just fall loose on the ground...

'Lower' would have the advantage that couriers and visitors ringing don’t have to go up the stairs first, 'upper' would be 100% under the yet-to-be-installed canopy, mixed would be just for mail, and for ringing you have to come to the door anyway...

The mailbox may be practical down there, but I would place the doorbell panel somewhere where you can stand dry while speaking through it.

I would leave the doorbell near the door. Having it on the front of the house wall might invite children to mischief by pressing it briefly while passing by. Anyone who wants to ring your doorbell has to climb the stairs anyway. I would also leave the mailbox there if otherwise the mail would fall to the floor in the office? I wouldn't want to bend down every day for that. Is it sensible in terms of energy efficiency to still have a mail slot? Are there special boxes for that, or do people really have an uninsulated hole in the wall? People generally don't do that anymore nowadays because it wastes heating energy.

No, there would be a mail basket right there (yes, it would stand under the desk, on the floor)…

That’s a very good topic – I’ve heard there are insulated solutions, but of course that’s a major point in the planning!

Especially if, in the worst case, cold drafts were to come in at foot level – not acceptable!
