Drilled into WDVS facade and used standard dowels. Seal it?

Hello.

We have a prefab house with a plaster facade and an external thermal insulation composite system. I have now attached a house number by drilling 6 cm into the facade according to the instructions and using a standard plug (no [WDVS] plug was included). Since it is from one of the market leaders in house numbers, doorbells, and mailboxes, I thought I could blindly trust the instructions.

The house number has threaded pins screwed into it, which were supposed to be pushed into the plug. Unfortunately, while inserting, the plugs slid a bit into the insulation, and I can't get them out anymore. However, the house number can still be installed.

Now I am a bit worried that the facade might absorb moisture or that a cold/thermal bridge is created here, since special [WDVS] plugs were not used and the existing plugs slid a bit into the facade.

The house number can be pulled out (the plugs remain in the facade).

I was considering sealing the hole completely with silicone and then reinserting the house number, but I wanted to ask the experts for their assessment whether that would be sensible.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Here are the properties of the facade:

Plaster facade (U-value 0.14 W/m²K)
- mineral lightweight plaster with a final coating
- 120 mm external thermal insulation composite system ([WLS 040])
- structural sheathing
- timber frame
- 140 mm mineral insulation ([WLS 035]) between the
timber frame
- vapor barrier
- installation level ([Sparschalung])
- inner sheathing

Use a proper hybrid sealant, spray it into the holes, insert the house number, and enjoy the sight.

That sounds good, thanks for the answer!

Can you recommend a specific hybrid sealant?

I used Sikaflex-521 or 522 for a similar case, it is a UV- and weather-resistant, strongly adhesive sealant, 300 ml, white P.S. The instructions from the number manufacturer definitely said something regarding the house wall material ;-)

Thanks for your tip, I'll get that stuff. Actually, the manual from the number manufacturer didn't say anything further about the house wall material, it only described this one procedure and didn't include any ETICS dowels either. Which of course doesn't mean that I couldn't/shouldn't have dealt with the topic more closely beforehand. I've already been annoyed enough about that. But I'm glad that your answers have now suggested a reasonable solution to clear this up :)

And in the future, please throw away the enclosed plugs first and foremost; that should be the first official action after opening the packaging. The enclosed plugs are usually at best suitable for concrete and solid brick walls, which you will only find in a modern house as the ceiling on the ground floor or in an exterior brick wall. But even if you happen to drill into a joint in a solid brick wall, you can forget about these plugs.

The manufacturer probably refers somewhere more or less vaguely in his instructions to the fact that, of course, suitable fastening material must be used. Otherwise, you could now sue him, at least in the USA, for a complete renovation of your ETICS facade ;)
