The staircase is open. We now tend to leave the staircase open but draw a wall between the living room and the staircase so that the first steps of the staircase would be wound into the basement.
Placing the fireplace in the middle of the room would be possible. However, we consider the living room too small for that (even the smallest studio fireplaces already look large).
What do you think about placing the fireplace in the middle of the exterior wall to increase the distance to the couch? From the outside view, on the ground floor in the bay window, the windows would need to have a distance of about 75 - 80 cm to place the fireplace in between. On the upper floor, the distance between the windows in the bay would have to be smaller, as there needs to be space on the side for cabinets in the dressing room. Or two windows only about 60 cm wide would fit. A bit narrow, right?
