Good morning,

in January my house will finally be built and I am not sure whether the doors and door frames will be properly protected during the construction phase or whether it is really necessary to protect them.

I can well imagine that craftsmen, by carrying materials and tools, might bump into the corners of the doors here and there and cause damage.

I already wish everyone a nice weekend and look forward to your experiences.

Michael from the North :)

Doors only come at the very end. Even for the front door, you first have a construction door that is then replaced by the real one.

The latter was not the case for us; the actual exterior doors were installed right away. And at least the door frame is installed before the plaster. For us, the frames and doors were taped off when craftsmen worked in the door vicinity, such as the plasterers and drywall installers. Other craftsmen took care. However, we kept the film on the front door until the very end. Only the other films that come from the manufacturer unfortunately have to be removed promptly; otherwise, they burn in and become impossible or very difficult to remove.

Depends. In our case, it was delivered with the wall.

just as said, for proper plastering it is better if the door (at least the frame) is installed before the plastering. The filling can then be a temporary filler (not possible with an overlay filling), and the correct one will be installed later. Otherwise, you have to provide protection, EPS, thin OSB board or something like that. If you have a complete construction door, the plasterer has to leave a narrow strip free and then it has to be plastered over later, which can work well but can also look visibly bad.

In our timber frame construction, the front door also came fixed and ready with the wall, with protective films. These were removed 3 months later after moving in. Interior doors, however, always come at the very end.
