Does the door open inward or outward? What is normal?

Hello everyone,

attached is a drawing of our guest WC. Unfortunately, the pre-wall installation has now become almost 21 cm deep due to a ventilation pipe behind it. Therefore, we are now unsure whether the door should open inward or outward.

We will only install a hand washbasin with a depth of 36 cm. This way, the door would just barely pass by it if it opens inward.

If the door opens outward, it just fits past the front door...

So, which is the lesser evil or what is more practical?

Visually, I would find inward opening more attractive...

If going outside, then please in the other direction. Walking path around the door is annoying.

tomtom79 is right. And please pay attention that in such small rooms, if someone has health problems and lies on the floor, they should be quickly accessible for paramedics or others. Therefore, in small rooms, among other safety reasons, the door should open outwards. Just imagine how often it can happen when someone enters or leaves the house and at the same time the guest WC door is opened. Personally, I prefer outwards.

I agree with that: facing outwards and without walking around the door, so turned 180°. Or as drawn, but 63.5 instead of 76 wide.

Sliding door? We had one in an old apartment, we thought it was great. We are now also considering replacing the regular door with a sliding door in the current apartment because we constantly have to walk around the door in the hallway. It's just really annoying. :-/
