Hello dear home builders,

do you have a water softening system? Is it really worth it or is it just a way to make money?
Our architect recommended one to us, but the question is whether the 3000 euros are really worth it?
I think that is a lot of money.

It depends on how hard your water is. For us, it is 28 dH, hard water starts at 14 dH. Water softening through ion exchange is already reasonable here. We have a strange filter in our apartment building that does absolutely nothing.

However, I would inquire whether the water association or the municipal utilities will build a softening plant in your area soon. In my hometown, which had a similar hardness to my current place, this has already been done, and the water has been significantly softer since then. In this case, you can definitely save the money.

How many degrees of hardness do you have?

As long as it is not one of those obscure magnetic descalers, I do think it helps; whether it is worth it to you, you have to decide for yourself.

We have one, reduced from 20dh to 8dh (we had that in our old apartment, it was a different water area) My wife would move out if we didn’t have one. Costs were 3000 including installation, maintenance is about 75 p.a.

We are also considering.. of course €3000 is a lot of money but our neighbors have had it installed now and are completely thrilled.. less detergent, less shampoo, no descaler.... There is also an alternative to the "expensive" devices, here in Heidelberg they are made by the same company. The neighbors only paid €1,500 including installation. So it is worth looking around

Just search for the company Grünbeck. Our system will be from this company. It costs about 1,500€ including installation.
