Hi,
I am planning to build my own wooden terrace roof next year.
I hope you can help me with some questions.

1. The roof should be made of double-wall sheets in milky white. What thickness should the sheets be?
2. I would like to install a roller blind on a rail system for sun protection. Most people have their roller blinds above the terrace roof. Wouldn't it be more effective if it were underneath? Especially when it starts to rain.
3. Do I need a building permit for the terrace roof? I am currently planning a width of about 8m.
4. One side should provide wind protection. Should it be better to build this with masonry or wood? Since this is the weather-exposed side, the wood would be heavily stressed.

Many questions waiting for an answer. I hope you can help me.

Hello,

I can tell you that we are currently planning a terrace pavilion and had to submit it along with the new building for approval at the building authority; dimensions 5.00 x 3.00 m. Therefore, you will have to obtain a permit before the extension.

Maybe a word about "our" construction: creation including 2 reinforced concrete pillars and foundations, 2 beams, Schöck element for attachment to the house, glass roof made of laminated safety glass (VSG), exterior plaster on concrete pillars as well as gutter and downpipes. We generally only build such pavilions with VSG (safety issue); if I remember correctly, only VSG is approved anyway for the size you are planning.

PS: attached is a picture of a comparable pavilion on the subject of privacy screens, which we built two years ago.

Best regards

Hello,

Yes.

Initially, it was planned to make the terrace from Bankirai, then the terrace builder presented this material and our clients agreed to his suggestion. After 2 years of continuous use, it can be said that this decision was a good one.

Kind regards

I am currently having these considerations as well. I expect WPC to provide a splinter-free, low-maintenance surface that wood probably cannot offer me. However, it is not exactly cheap if you want around 40sqm. I am already leaning back towards paving.

Hello,

Because I am more or less regularly on site, I can confirm this expectation in the end.

That is certainly true. But the question is: "What do you want?" I think it is as always in life: spend more money upfront and enjoy carefree in the long run or choose the cheaper option, knowing that some work will have to be done again in a few years? 40 sqm is of course quite a size, but I assume you don't mean the pure terrace dimension. Maybe a mix of two alternatives? Where you have the seating area WPC and basically as an access/pathway/border a gravel option? That also looks very good

Kind regards
