Dear forum,

we are currently having serious problems with our district chimney sweep, who refuses to clean our planned chimney for our fireplace from the inside through an inspection flap. He insists on access from the outside or through a roof window. However, this would mean additional costs of 4-5k euros for our construction. Is it permissible for him to insist on this? Are there any possibilities to file an objection or complain somewhere?

Looking forward to feedback!

Why can't he go on the roof with the ladder?
Messing with a demigod in black? You can do that, but I think you'll come off worse.

I would be glad if our cleaning opening were not in the living area. Our chimney is about 20 years old and a lot of dirt comes out when sweeping. I cover half the room with old bedsheets to avoid having to clean off soot.

Hello, I can relate! Our chimney sweep comes at impossible times, opens the flap and turns around.

It is, of course, also a kind of simplification of the process.

Maybe one should say: an external access was forgotten at your place, which is not acceptable.

Yes, certainly.
I would not underestimate this person, this craft, and the responsibilities.
There is no disputable approach, no lawyer, and no objection.
The rule is: if I want something extra, then I also have to pay for the surroundings.
As I know it, a general contractor offers the "chimney" package including roof hatch etc.

What about you with the pressure monitor? Do you also need it because of an installed controlled residential ventilation?

You do have a free choice. Choose another chimney sweep.

I also have no access from the outside. However, my chimney sweep had no problem with it.
