Hey dear forum!

Our earthworks are almost finished and we are currently trying to imagine our property as it should be.

Unfortunately, our property is quite awkwardly sloped, falling off to the side, and we really have no idea how to design it sensibly. Our original idea was to pile up earth and level it to the height of the (on the left in the picture) corner. However, our earthworks contractor dismissed that, saying it doesn't make sense, among other things because of support, groundwater from the slope, etc. Additionally, my parents live to the right of us, and that way we would place a huge earth wall in front of them, which nobody wants.

Does anyone have ideas on how we could design our property? We want to do a lot ourselves, but not put 5000 terraces/steps/other things into the garden, since our property is barely 520 sqm.

I am grateful for any tips :)

Why is the house positioned so high?
Can you upload a site plan with the house marked?
What requirements do you have for the garden?
e.g. kitchen garden, where the terrace, play area, dike, access to parents, etc.

We have a basement underneath. If we had set the house even deeper, we would have ended up below street level, which we did not want because of the backflowing groundwater, or according to the geotechnician/architect and others, would not make any sense at all.

The garden is intended to be primarily a play garden, with small usable areas at the edges. Transition to the parents' area possibly through a staircase in the flatter section.

The first thing that comes to mind is intercepting with natural stones. More or less like in the picture. The advantage is that you don't have too many, or hardly any slopes and can use the green area optimally. In the picture, about 6 tons of natural stone can be seen. You can currently get it for +/- 3,000 EUR.

Something like that is rather not an option for us because the vast majority of the garden area would be lost. In addition, the slope in question is rather disruptive across the width of the property, not across the length.
