Hello, I have a house from 1958 and these cracks in the basement ceiling. I showed these cracks to my architect and he says it is harmless; it is just the plaster. At the age of the building, they should not be settlement cracks, and as far as I can see, the crack does not run through the whole building.Hello, I bought an old building from 1972 in 2014. In the basement, on the exterior wall facing the other semi-detached house, there is a crack from the floor almost up to the ceiling. According to the sales pictures, the crack was already there when I bought it; whether it has gotten bigger cannot be said, as the picture is relatively blurry.
I never really thought about it. Is something like that harmless? Should one have an expert take a look at it? Attached are pictures.
If you want to be absolutely sure, you have to remove the plaster from the wall and see how it looks behind it. However, I refrained from doing that. Regards
