We are soon facing the question of what kind of flooring we want to lay in the living room and children's room, and with all the options available, we have now become completely undecided. At the moment, we still have oiled cork in a ship deck look in the children's rooms and are enthusiastic about the living feeling it provides. However, the children no longer like the cork and want something different in the new house. But what?

What do you have in your living room and children's room (bedroom)? And why? Would you choose it again? If yes - why? If no - why? We have a low-temperature underfloor heating system.

We have glued parquet flooring in all rooms (except bathrooms + hallways).

Why? I have seen "clean" carpets several times that were cleaned with a carpet cleaning machine. Afterwards, it was clear that we would not bring that grime into the house.
There are no problems with the underfloor heating; the parquet was also coordinated with the heating installer. Cleaning is simply done with the vacuum cleaner and occasionally damp.

The parquet is oak in the "oak barrique" variant, looks like the wood from old barrique barrels. Very hard and durable - even with three small children.

"Harmoniously brushed and oiled oak" in all rooms except bathrooms and kitchen. We chose it this way because of the dog and its claws and because of relative ease of maintenance.

Sorry – but the carpets I saw could have looked like they came straight from the dealer, and yet the cleaning water was disgusting...
Our three children love their parquet floor, none of them has a carpet. There is hardly any stirred-up dust fluff either – thanks to controlled residential ventilation and regular vacuuming.

Why the "Sorry"?
I bet with you that the cleaning water of our carpet under the slant behind the bed or on the running track will certainly turn out murky as well - but it is the same with other surfaces that are not cleaned or vacuumed every other day and come into contact with street dirt.
That’s why I would never plan a staircase in the entrance area.
This does not mean that I don’t clean. I do, but not every day or every other day, because I am not allergic to dirt (for example, I don’t like sand grains under my feet). I clean as needed, by sight and by feeling... I don’t like to make myself a slave - not even for the house.

If your children "love" their floor, then they are probably out of the crawling age and at the age where they already consciously make distinctions. From a certain age, you can probably do without carpeting... whether you want to is another question.

: How about the compatibility of underfloor heating and carpet? Doesn't it absorb an incredible amount of heat and you have to heat a lot more to get the same temperature as with laminate, for example? How expensive was your carpet? We had beautiful oak parquet in our condominium. Well, after our first child played on it, it was anything but beautiful. That's why parquet won't come into our house until the kids are a bit older and no longer bang their building blocks against it. How is it actually with cork and underfloor heating? I understand that all these floors are available in versions suitable for underfloor heating. But isn't it the case that with floors like cork or carpet, more energy still has to be used to get the room to the same temperature as a room with laminate? I don't even want to compare it with stone. But laminate versus cork or carpet, is the additional energy effort significant?
