Hello everyone,

we will soon be installing floors ourselves in our upper floor and are currently still in the "exploration phase."

We are considering deciding on a cork floor.

At a specialist dealer on site, we saw a cork floor from Wicanders with a vinyl carrier board and are impressed by it.

For us, the natural cork floor together with the robust vinyl surface completes the perfect properties of a floor.

Now the question:

The floor from Wicanders at the specialist dealer would cost about €45.

At the hardware store, I get the same floor, of course from a different manufacturer --> CORKLIFE for about €35.

The construction looks identical to me, and the producer in the background also seems to be the same.

Has anyone of you had experience with one of the two floors, or maybe could know what the differences are here?

Of course, I am reluctant to spend €10/m² more if the added value is only manageable.

For your information: parquet is not an option for us --> we are not "wood lovers" and parquet would have more disadvantages for our personal attitude than, for example, cork/vinyl.

For a vinyl floor, I am somehow not willing to pay more than €30 (which you should, however, if you don't want "dreck" :D). Thus, I think cork is a very good alternative.

What is the cork content in your cork vinyl flooring?

Overall 10.5mm thick layer - divided into:

0.55mm PVC-free wear layer (top layer for the "decor") 1.3mm high-density cork layer HDF carrier board with Corkloc (I think this will be the rest?) 2.2mm cork underlay

It is actually currently the "highest quality" and also most ecological cork product on the market, which also looks visually appealing due to the wear layer :)

With the Corklife, I know that the construction is the same, but the top wear layer is not completely PVC-free, or not as "ecological" as with the floor from Wicanders. This involves an ecological coating (according to a phone call with Wicanders) which is somewhat "better."

They ultimately distribute both – both come from the same company – but sell the Wicanders at a higher quality level.
