I have already seen different cooking islands and exhaust variations at acquaintances' places. I always feel that the exhaust on a cooking island is not as effective as when you have a conventional cooktop in the kitchen row. Since I often need a lot of space for cutting and processing, I would like a large "work island." Personally, I don't care much if I end up with my back to the guests while cooking. Do you have any experience with this? Cooking place on the island or on the kitchen row? And which exhaust is really powerful?

Thank you very much in advance!

Cross-currents necessarily exist in kitchen islands. There are also effective systems here that tend to achieve the same result as at a wall row but are more expensive.

I find downdraft for islands to be the better solution than a hood.

Work island: I have experience with it, found it so good that I would do it again at any time. Preparation time far exceeds cooking time. When frequently searing sharply, I don't like the stove position near the guest.

But caution: This is a crucial question in kitchen design. Someone else will advise you exactly the opposite.

Cooktop row on the wall with ceiling extractor hood integrated into flush upper cabinets, bottom edge approx. 180 to 200 cm .. depending on the size of the user. Tall cabinets on the right and left, creating a nice niche where the steam has no other choice but to disappear into the extractor hood. Additionally, a large sink/work island for preparation purposes also with plenty of workspace for, e.g., making pasta, baking cookies, etc.

Opinions differ on that.
The best is to develop your own thoughts and philosophy according to your preferences.

Well, those have already been considered by the TE, further supported by my own thoughts and also practiced in many countries. The typical cooktop island is more of a German phenomenon.
