Off-topic: The automatic conversion into a link could really be disabled by default. That would surely save you a lot of work too

Wikipedia is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit organization (unlike former works such as Britannica or Microsoft Encarta, which come from for-profit companies). So-called "vandalism," i.e. entering false information or similar, has been practically excluded since the introduction of the review system. The Google algorithm also recognizes the high value of the Wikipedia website and awards it a PageRank of 9. According to Google, Wikipedia is therefore among the approximately 200 most important websites in the world. One reason for the discontinuation of Britannica & Co. was Wikipedia. Studies have shown that Wikipedia's information is at least as accurate as that of Britannica, except that Wikipedia contains a multiple amount of knowledge. Other studies prove that groups make correct decisions more often than individual experts. Any more questions?

So, not only links to products, i.e. alleged advertising, are forbidden but all links? But if one writes xxx instead of WWW, then it is allowed to "link" even obscure conspiracy theorists without really linking? See post 56 in this thread. I just want to understand what is now allowed and what is not? I thought a link to a very trustworthy and guaranteed independent source would be okay? But if ALL links are really forbidden, then why not disable linking entirely in the forum system? I didn't even explicitly set a link – I put the address in the text and the forum software converted it automatically.

According to the Terms and Conditions, all links are prohibited.

If advertising is done for the KfW, may God uh the moderation make an exception...

The (non)sense has already been attempted to be clarified, but it miserably failed...

The forum rules state that links are not allowed; complaints to [E-Mail]Info@Hausbau-Forum.de[/E-Mail]

I often change the "WWW" to "xxx" when posts have already been made after the link was set – I am not in the forum 24 hours/day – and deleting the entire link would render those posts absurd.

You can now assume that I would play God, as the sofa carrier so kindly hinted, you can assume that links with "xxx" instead of the full link are allowed. No – it still applies to follow the forum rules, and these state that links are prohibited ... except if the posters setting the links have been members of this forum for a longer time. The operator formulated this exception to the rule on the assumption that users with longer membership can distinguish between advertising and serious information. It can of course happen that mods – like recently Yvonne – do not share that assessment ... Unfortunately, Yvonne also does not want to play God.

Conclusion: follow the forum rules

Rhenish greetings (after a long day)

I really don’t understand what the discussion is always about. Advertising is generally deleted by us, regardless of whether it contains www or xxx.
When it comes to links to information sites, we are quite lenient and try to find a middle ground with xxx or similar, so that the information is not completely lost.
Many things can also be solved without having to use links. A short reference to Wikipedia under the search term xyz or an inserted quote with the source Wikipedia would have sufficed for you, for example.

Links within the forum, on the other hand, make sense. Therefore, the link function should not be disabled.
