How does a rotary heat exchanger actually respond to an air conditioning system?

Not at all, why do you ask?

Because I was curious whether some of the cold air from the exhaust air is fed back into the house.

Otherwise, if both are operating at the same time, the ventilation would blow warm air into the house while the air conditioners have to cool the warm air down again. Or how does that work?

The heat recovery always works in the direction of the "house," whether cooling or heating.

That means the air conditioning does not have to fight against the controlled residential ventilation?
