Commissioning of the network installation

So my NAS is located upstairs in the attic. Basically, I imagined it like this: the switch is connected to the Fritz behind the patch panel. From there, everyone gets access to the "outside"! The NAS in the attic, the individual receivers in the living room, bedroom, and children's room, the desktop PC in the study, and so on.

Why don't you put the NAS with the rest of the network equipment? It can get quite hot on the floor, is that really good for the NAS?

The thing with the attic is maybe because of the theft?

I am also afraid that if there was a break-in, the NAS is gone.
Since around 2002 I have only had digital cameras; all pictures have been digital with us ever since.
In 2004 I already lost many pictures because of a virus..

You can definitely also "hide" the NAS somewhere in the HAR. But it makes sense to have all components together, especially when something doesn't work as it should. And regarding your pictures, or backup in general: you never ever ever have all your data on just one storage device. I have my pictures on 3 or 4 hard drives, always the same ones.

For backup: My pictures are also stored on an additional drive and on a server on the internet, I don't think the attic is a good hiding place for that.
