I don't really understand that. There are not only heating fireplaces. A fireplace can also simply be there to bring some coziness into the house. I never said that I want to use it for heating or anything like that.

Yes, we need to take another look at that!

If you have the exterior dimensions and the position of the walls as well as the thickness, then you can calculate the rest. In fact, though, it is not 1:1.

- Thanks... we will still have to do something about that. I have already thought about "swapping" the stairs and using a quarter-turn staircase (is that what it’s called?). Additionally, I will adjust the orientation of the rooms a bit more as I mentioned before. The corner was really meant for the wood - but that will also be adjusted.

Many thanks for all the - admittedly very critical - comments. Hopefully, we will take them into account during the planning.

I also think that the space between the kitchen island and the sofa is too tight. There should also be a walkway next to it, even when people are sitting at the table. At the moment, it looks to me more like ~3m total width, which could be a bit tight... maybe the sofa doesn’t have to be that wide either? I also see problems with the length – if you want to go outside, either through a DK door or (a sliding lift door would probably be better here), you have to place the table about 1m away from the door, and in the area of the living room door there should also be at least 1m to the table – with 3.99m available, the table can therefore be at most 2m long, and no one can sit at the head ends. I would say a maximum of 6 people, squeezed 8 people at the sides. I don’t think the house is wide enough for this arrangement kitchen – dining area – living area in a row, maybe an L-shape would be better suited here? What actually costs 410,000 for the house? It’s not even that big.

With L-shape, it could go in this direction...

How do you manage to operate a fireplace without automatically heating with it? This is a serious question. In our future house, there is a connection for a fireplace that has never been used. However, I wouldn’t want to place a fireplace right next to the sofa or dining table because it simply gets too warm then. A colleague of mine installed a fireplace in his new build about 10 years ago. In hindsight, he had to admit that it was a wrong decision because the underfloor heating simply reacts too sluggishly and with the fireplace it gets way too warm in the living room.

I cannot confirm that. We also have a 10 kW fireplace and in our case the temperature in the room rose by about 1-2 degrees after about 2 hours of the fireplace being on. You can even sit comfortably next to it. And it is a three-sided fireplace with a lot of glass surface...
