Good evening,

I am currently dealing with the choice of an electric sectional door for the garage. The prefabricated garage is supposed to have a clear width of 2500x2000 mm. The sectional door offered by the builder should be around 1,600 EUR after offsetting with the manual sliding door. A typical sectional door from Bauhaus would be about 600 EUR + installation, which would put me at a little over 1,000 EUR. A garage door from Hörmann is available online for about 750 EUR without installation. With installation, I estimate around 1,100 EUR.

Has anyone already had experience installing the sectional door on their own (without a builder)? I would be grateful for any tips.

Good morning

It's not witchcraft,
it's just hard to assess your craftsmanship skills.
If you're good at it, one helper is enough. If sharpening pencils is more your thing,
better not.

There are surely providers on the internet who offer [Markentor + Einbau] in your area. A few weeks ago, out of curiosity, I also looked into how much a double G-gate costs. I had been considering doing the G-gate plus G-electrics myself. If you find a provider for about 1,000 euros (gate + installation), then you’ve already saved quite a bit and can easily get the electrics and drive for that. I wouldn’t install it myself, never done it before and you certainly need a few extra hands.

I believe I am capable of installing it myself with the instructions, but I have never done it before. In an emergency, I can still pull the brake and let a professional continue. Today I requested a quote for an Alulux sectional door. The size of 2500x2000 mm doesn't seem to be a standard everywhere. If necessary, I will have the intended swing door equipped with a Hörmann drive and try it out that way first. If the swing door annoys me, I can still buy the sectional door without a drive afterwards. In principle, can the same drive, possibly from Hörmann, be used for both a sectional door and a swing door?

We installed two sectional doors from Hörmann including the drive. It's not wizardry, but adjusting the emergency release afterwards was nerve-wracking. However, our last installation was 10 years ago. Newer models are definitely easier to adjust.

I would install the sectional door now and not start with a tilt door just because it's easier. That is money badly spent, as you will still have to pay the price for a sectional door later.

Hello EveundGerd, after further consideration I have come to the same conclusion. I have now ordered the sectional door without a drive from the developer. I will buy the drive afterwards and install it myself. I assume that the door itself mainly causes most problems during installation. This way I have saved 650,- EUR. The drive with rail is, to my knowledge, a maximum of 400,- €. There are now powerful drives from Schellenberg in hardware stores, which can also be operated by radio or app. They cost about half the price of Hörmann. Has anyone had experience with them?
