Above all, come back every 3 years with the full equipment. Tape off floor and baseboards... apply wallpaper remover, get rid of the wet mess... set up the wallpaper table, paste sludge... every few years? No thanks...

What is always right is what the woman wants. Period.

Fortunately, my wife wanted textured plaster. Yes, we already have a few traces of a spontaneously organized knight tournament in the children's room (we have decided on wallpaper there) as well as in the hallway and on the stairs – these can be surprisingly well repaired on textured plaster. I also have a spot here that was repaired during construction (the electrician was looking for a flush-mounted box with a hammer after plastering, the missing plaster cover tabs could have told him that there isn’t one, but he gave up only after 10 minutes) and you really only notice it if you know about it.

As a child, I was allowed to choose the wallpaper for my room myself – I was six years old and liked the Smurfs, so it was Smurf wallpaper. Not only was Smurf wallpaper extremely uncool a few years later, but it was also plastic-coated and therefore extremely ugly to remove. Just as permanent as the wallpaper were all the scratches in it. God, I was so glad when that shame that prevented visits from girls was finally removed and replaced with textured wallpaper.

Therefore: textured plaster and then stick on. With pictures from kindergarten or the fan poster or whatever. But it is really quickly removable.

Who actually puts up woodchip wallpaper or applies textured plaster in their beautiful new building... I'd rather paint a Q2 wall right away than give myself the 90s rental apartment look.

Just a little tip on the side, my mother once made a large board in the hallway out of [Rigips-Platten] and [Tafelfolie] for a few euros. We were allowed to let loose with chalk on it and express our creative urge. It worked great and we never thought of painting the walls.

Have you already made a decision? Can you maybe help me understand the financial difference between plaster and smooth fleece? Is the topic of covering settlement cracks not a major factor in your decision? It was only mentioned once briefly in this thread.

Yep, we will plaster everything. Settlement cracks should not be a big issue, it is not a new building. :) I couldn't even tell you the difference between plaster and fleece – but I suspect the labor effort is about the same.
