my parents did not allow the toys - except exceptionally for bathing - to leave the children's room. my mother also has a kind of obsession with tidiness

Is toy only in the children's room?

I think bedrooms and children's rooms are personal retreats and living rooms, dining rooms, are for everyone.

In our home, there are children's traces everywhere. Toys are not mess.

I don't think the master bedroom has to be smaller than the children's rooms. Although the children, especially as teenagers, spend much more time there, the parents share the room (and also for a longer time). For a 2x2m bed that should be accessible from both sides plus a wardrobe for two working people plus a place to put clothes that you want to wear again, there is, after all, a minimum size below which a children's room can fall without becoming inhumane. If more space is available, however, the size proportions should equalize, I agree with that too.

yes, no toys outside the room, I don't find that so bad. of course, I don't remember how it was when I was under 4 years old. maybe it was a bit more relaxed then. but we always had to tidy up our own rooms and keep closets like wardrobes neat, my mother usually helped when we were younger, but especially later it was expected for us to do it independently. however, we always had fairly large rooms, never less than 12m², later as a teenager (we always only rented) I had almost 16 with old building ceilings. there was even a sink in it and a sofa still fit in.

The size of the children's rooms was important to me. We planned 23 sqm and 21 sqm.

We played a lot outside the children's rooms until we retreated as teenagers, and the garden or dining room could be used for parties at any time.
