Hello everyone,

I have been struggling with a problem for days. So I'm asking for advice. I would like to build a carport with a normal pitched roof/hip roof.

For the relevant offers, there is a plan from the manufacturer and also a structural analysis. Since I do not really want to buy the kit, I thought I would build everything exactly the same. Is it allowed to use the structural analysis then? You could use the structural analysis to calculate a new one, right?

I would be interested in your opinion. Machines and carpenters are planned. There is one restriction compared to the series. I wanted to use glued laminated timber trusses instead of KVH.

Hi,
why shouldn't you be allowed to use the statics? Such a carport is just like any other, and if you have it calculated yourself, surely nothing else will come out.

Hi,

before you start building please remember that for a carport you need a plan and a permit.

Yes, and it is not guaranteed that you will get approval, with us it was not permitted.

Just take a look at the building regulations. They say what can be built and what cannot, and what you need for it. I would also recommend that. In the past, you only had to expect fines within a reasonable range. Today, however, demolition is often required if it was not approved. Can you buy the statics without the kit?

Hello Pflaume massiv,

Now one thing at a time.

1. For every construction project planned in Germany, including a carport, a structural safety certificate (static calculation) is mandatory. This is also stated in the state building regulations. Whether the statics must be submitted for review depends on who prepares them. Engineers with appropriate professional experience are usually exempt from the review.

2. The static calculation, including the one that comes with a commercially available carport, is protected by copyright.

3. Whether a carport at the location and size desired by the builder can be approved can be easily inquired at the building authority of the responsible municipality.

4. Depending on the state building regulations, construction projects up to a certain size can be built without approval; a layperson can also find this out at the responsible building authority. A static calculation must still be available.

Hopefully, this has made many things clearer.
