With locked windows, you don’t have to worry about the second escape route anymore. Or do you open and close them every time, depending on whether you are at home or not?

I was more concerned with the practical aspect. You have created your prison with your lockable windows - just without bars. I don't think it's so bad if you can leave the burning house through a window.

That’s what the prescribed escape windows are for, whose function is not really impaired by attached French balconies. Otherwise, you still have your friends from the fire department, who mostly arrive quickly at the scene and have absolutely no problem with closed windows ... despite any building regulations.
