Bungalow with 40-degree roof pitch still nice?

More likely a half-hipped roof. But it also has nothing to do with bungalows.

One is what you like, the other is what you need.
Surely not everything that is not a "bungalow" is ugly in your eyes.

Google "Reetdach." There are certainly some half-hipped roofs among them. In some cases, the gable side is extended all the way down. It doesn't look like a bungalow then, but it is probably one. (e.g., 2nd image on Wikipedia under Reetdach). Unless the size of the upper floor is so large that it counts as a full storey again.
