We have a laundry chute directly from the bathroom that comes out right next to the washing machine. I find that quite practical.

What, in your opinion, speaks against the hobby room in the basement? If we had built all the basement rooms above ground, you would need a plot of land larger than 1000m².

Just calculated.

If the laundry room costs, say, €20,000 and you wash laundry 3 times a week for €1 per wash cycle and pay €15 for washing and ironing a laundry basket, you have paid off the laundry room after 10 years and then save €2,000 per year.
And that doesn’t even include the fuel I need to get to the nearest laundry.

Or you put the laundry room above ground near the wardrobe and save both the basement AND the chute. What "arguments"...

Exactly like that! We have the laundry room on the upper floor next to the dressing room (or closet room or whatever you want to call it) and that was the best decision ever! No lugging down and back up again, everything is washed "on site" and put away again.

and you get the above-ground rooms for free? Space costs, whether it is above ground or underground is almost irrelevant. Personally, I simply prefer it differently for the mentioned rooms, as I then have more space for the garden and so on.

I don't want a workshop or laundry room on the upper floor, firstly because it makes a lot of dirt and noise, and secondly the space up there is way too valuable to me. But practically, of course, washing clothes upstairs is convenient!

Like the grumbler, we have a laundry chute and that is already very comfortable.
