Building with or without a basement in Southern Germany - experiences?

Then people will just look askance from time to time. That does not make for a bad neighborhood. If building without a basement could cause neighborhood problems: avoid the region widely and if necessary emigrate. But that is certainly not necessary for you.

I can no longer take the thread seriously. You are making a discussion/a problem out of something where there is no problem. The basement will be cleared anyway by the available budget, so first take care of a plot of land before you waste energy here senselessly.

We built without a basement in southern Germany, and you wouldn't believe it, but no one looks at us askance because of it. On the contrary, I have already heard from several people (people who built 20 - 30 years ago) that they would now also build without a basement.

I am a total basement enthusiast and we also built one, but why should anyone give you a sideways glance? I live in the deepest Bavaria and even here, for cost reasons, most people build without a basement.

However, you have to consider that you cannot compare a modern basement with basements from 20-30 years ago. If I only plan the basement as a storage room, it is of course not worthwhile, but if I move above-ground rooms downwards (laundry, hobby, technical, storage) and thereby possibly enable a smaller plot, the basement becomes interesting again in terms of price.

Perhaps interesting in terms of price, but unfortunately still totally impractical. Stairs down for laundry.... Yuck... Hobby in the basement... Ugh.... Technology, on the other hand, can certainly go there, but only for that a basement, hm.

Whoever wants the basement for the laundry can try calculating differently - how many years of full service with washing and ironing do you get for the price of a basement?
