Building plot 1.5m below street level - Basement yes/no

well, with a basement you can potentially save a square meter or two 'upstairs' - and having 80 m2 more space for 20k is not to be dismissed either.

If possible, I would always build with a basement - even though some conversations over the past few months have made me think (but that was not enough to convince me to build without a basement)

Hello,
some of us have planned in similar situations either with a second apartment downstairs or with garden access downstairs. Most extreme example: garage integrated into the house at street level, kitchen/living room also at street level, the bedrooms as well as a second living room on the level below. The roof (gable roof, 20° pitch!) directly above the kitchen/living room, the garage has a flat roof... It also has its charm...

A good idea...
I think it would be difficult to implement with us.

According to the purchase contract, we have to fill up the plot to street level...
Since we have a corner plot, the street also runs past the garden.
In addition, our building neighbor is building without a basement and is completely filling up.

That means our garden would be in a depression according to your suggestion and could be used as a garden pond in the next storm... ;oP

But I'll mention it to the architect, as I basically find the idea interesting...
