Hello dear all,
I have a lot of small questions, but I don’t want to open a new topic for each question. I hope that’s okay? Basically, it’s about our floor plan and the related decisions. We are almost done – except for these questions that are still open.
1. BATHROOM FLOOR PLAN: Toilet and Shower
Current version: The toilet is at the back in the corner. The plan is not to make the wall fully high. The architect suggests a wall that still (or just barely) blocks the person sitting on the toilet. Then glass up to the ceiling. Another idea from my husband, which would be more cost-effective: a wall up to the top and leave a gap at the top, without glass.
Another idea:
Swap shower and toilet to save costs: shower glass walls would be omitted. On the other hand, I would find it a pity if the window light to the shower is even further away. Actually, it’s better if the toilet is rather hidden. My husband argued that you use the toilet more often than the shower.
>> Which option do you think is better?
2. GARAGE: Double garage or single garage with carport
We had several conversations with the craftsmen over the last two days, which have unsettled us a bit.
Initially, we wanted a single garage with a carport. Reasons:
- More light in the ground floor, since we have a southeast orientation. That way we would gain more light. A double garage would steal the middle window.
- We accepted that the garage is smaller for that. A small shed behind the garage for bikes etc. was planned. We also have a basement.
Now the master tinsmith said the garage was too small for him and recommended a double garage. With a carport it would be dark anyway.
3. GARAGE: Prefabricated garage vs. masonry
A prefabricated garage was planned. Reasons:
+ Gain a few more cm in width
+ Cost factor
Now there is the objection that we should take a masonry garage because ...
- it would expand over the years. The leaks (snow masses etc.) would cause damage over the years.
>> What are your experiences?
I look forward to your feedback! :) It’s always exciting to hear what others think about this.
PS: I can’t insert the pictures right now. You will find them in the next post.
