I must admit that we don't have any lights at the front door and haven't missed it in 5 uh 6 years. Thanks to the street lighting and the lighting of the staircase next door, it is surprisingly well illuminated. Somehow it's often cozier without glaring light. In summer it is almost always off and in winter we actually use it more often but it doesn't have to be as bright as a reading spot.

For the entrance, something simple and visually fitting from the hardware store with dusk and motion sensor, at the cord on the terrace we had a wall lamp and dismounted it because it was not used. We are now using the power line for the terrace roof with an electric awning. The roof has LED lights, of course 8 in number.. but even these are used very rarely. Mostly candles or the modern rechargeable LED lights are enough. We also have lighting on the side of the house. The ones from Ikea do fine there. The switching is done from inside.

Philips Hue Impress. Dimmable, 16.7 million colors, you can integrate it into the SmartHome with OpenHab, but also just set it once via Bluetooth; the lamp remembers the last setting. The installation is fiddly, best done with two people.

There are also actuators for flush mounting, so the lamp stays in standby for automations even when the wall switch is off.

So far the lamps have been rarely in use, but it is also summer and it doesn't get really dark until 10:30 pm.

The biggest advantage is that you don't have to decide on the light color before buying or end up experimenting with different lamps. And I can tell the lamp to go full power in cool white at dusk, but only 50% in warm white in the dead of night. Of course, that only works via SmartHome.

And you can also integrate it into the alarm system...
