Hello,

I am looking for a comprehensive smart home program that can combine different manufacturers.

So far in my search, I have come across the following.

Home Assistant OpenHAB ioBroker

Which of these programs is the best or most widespread?

It is important to me that it runs stably and that you can create good automations. Furthermore, there should also be a smartphone app that can be used on the go to control the smart home remotely or just check the status of something.

Are all these programs open source and available for free?

Which of these programs would you recommend to me, or should we possibly opt for WiButler or Homee, which also support different radio standards?

Of the mentioned systems, I would prefer Home Assistant. After that would come ioBroker, although I find the licensing policy annoying with some adapters. Together with KNX, it’s also not much fun. I find OpenHAB unnecessarily complicated in many places.

All have apps, mobile control requires a VPN.

Yes.

Those are different approaches. WiButler and Homee are standalone systems, of course based on popular radio standards, and Home Assistant is the instance above all. But you can integrate all of them into Home Assistant. I would choose a management system that is as open and compatible as possible.

Thank you for your quick response.

Oh, so you have to set up a VPN yourself? I thought that was quite easy via the Home Assistant cloud.

Okay, you would recommend Home Assistant of the three mentioned. I don’t find ioBroker’s design as appealing as the other two (but design isn’t everything).

Yes, I know they are different approaches but basically with the same result.
WiButler or Homee would be the simpler solution and e.g. Home Assistant rather the tinkerer’s solution.

For example, WiButler combines all common wireless systems currently available. (Zigbee, EnOcean, Z-Wave) and in the basic concept, the program combines the different manufacturers and wireless systems into one smart home system.

That is basically the same concept as, for example, Home Assistant, only that Home Assistant is free, unlike e.g. WiButler.

Or did I misunderstand that?

Loxone, through the open API interface, you can connect almost anything, furthermore there is a large community around Loxberry

I have installed such a system, based on OpenHAB and ioBroker (further developed by our company from the above-mentioned open source solutions, and the whole thing will probably be available as a "system solution" at some point ;). Among other things, the USP is that almost all available third-party systems are connected, including bus-based ones (Loxone/KNX), so that the "expensive" star wiring for signal cables can be omitted. Or existing KNX systems can be programmed differently (more flexibly), etc. Currently, the possibility is being created to connect KNX components (KNX IP Router secure IPR.1.8.2 + power supply). That was the main request of some electricians surveyed. So far, very inexpensive 1-wire components (as sensors for temperature, humidity, etc.), almost all lighting systems on the market, vacuum cleaner robots, and others work perfectly.

You can do all that yourself!! But: many small stumbling blocks, hurdles, etc. make it not easy for the average person. If I had not had an experienced programmer promise to take care of it, it certainly would not have been installed in my place. I would have had neither the time nor the nerves for that :D

P.S. VPN is not necessary; a reverse proxy secured by a certificate also works and is definitely safe! Although I do have VPN in all my networks ;), it is not necessary for "remote control."

Of course, it is still being "heavily" developed. It is not yet market-ready. I will be happy to report further in the separate thread when there is an opportunity.

So currently there is no better alternative than the 3 big open source programs?
Whereas Home Assistant is the best of the systems?

Your system also sounds interesting when it is available and better, one can always switch then.

I want to have a comprehensive smart home system that can connect all smart home products that exist. So that everything can be combined in automations.
