Dear community,
We are currently putting the finishing touches on our floor plan. Right now, we are focusing on the main bathroom.
What should be included:
- Large washbasin (a sink with storage space, approx. 120-150 cm)
- Built-in mirrored cabinet
- Larger cabinet next to the washbasin
- Toilet
- Bathtub
- Walk-in shower with rain shower
Who uses the bathroom:
We are a couple with a 4-year-old son. There will also be a guest bathroom, which he can use eventually. Currently, only our son uses the bathtub; we rarely or almost never do.
Our preferences:
Bright with lots of storage space (small laundry basket, towels, cleaning supplies should be immediately accessible).
Attached is our floor plan of the entire floor with the architect’s bathroom proposal. A rough draft from him, based on our wishes. Unfortunately, our consultation needs are not really being met.
My husband played around with a bathroom planner and came up with the attached proposal. I find it quite coherent. What do you think? Is it feasible? Are there any points that are awkward? What bothers me mainly is that the window is behind the bathtub. But we couldn’t come up with any other solution where neither the shower nor the space by the washbasin would be cramped. And I prefer to lean over the bathtub. Due to the ventilation system, opening the window is less frequent anyway.
What I am wondering now is how to design the bathroom nicely? Walls at the toilet and shower really up to the ceiling? Different heights? How would you tile? With a child, we should probably tile at least halfway up everywhere (toilet, washbasin, bathtub) and fully in the shower. We are considering continuing the oak-look vinyl floor from the rest of the living area into the bathroom. My husband thinks half-height tiles would be too busy. I am still somewhat skeptical about all-white tiles, even if they are timeless. Also happy about tips for little things that enhance the bathroom. For example, I want a shower niche.
I am looking forward to your opinions!
Best regards
