Hello everyone,
we have a smaller room in the basement that I would like to convert into a bathroom. The basement is above ground on one side of the house, and the room where the bathroom is to be located is below ground (hillside location). This room has a "window" connected to a classic light well.
I am now facing the question of whether to replace this window with a new one and renovate the light well with an "Aco Therm Lichtschachtkörper" or – my preferred choice – to wall up the window and instead create a ventilation system with fans.
The ventilation could be done through a window from the laundry room (practically the other "above-ground" side of the house). The exhaust air in the newly built "bathroom" would then be routed through a pipe with a fan built into the former window.
Another option would be to use an unused chimney shaft (although there are electrical cables inside) and vent the exhaust air there.
What do you think? What would be the most sensible? I can gladly do without "daylight" in the bathroom. The "Bayernlüfter" is indeed designed for this purpose but quite expensive.
