A towel radiator only makes sense if you don’t have a towel holder. Heating the bathroom electrically is possible (it also works), but it’s pointless if it’s not a small bathroom.

Our heat pump produces 5kW heat with 1kW electricity, while the towel radiator provides a maximum of 1kW.

With 5kW output, I heat my entire house!

Therefore: a towel radiator serves as a luxury for warming towels. It is nothing more, but also nothing less.

In old buildings I might see it differently, but in new buildings.... it serves mathematics if nothing else works.

I would also like to raise a question on this topic:

We have a shower in the guest WC on the ground floor, and now the idea was to install a towel radiator with a heating cartridge on one of the walls to hang towels. Does this make sense here? We also have underfloor heating everywhere, which is heated by an air-to-water heat pump.

If it makes sense, where would be the best place to position it?

Such a towel radiator looks quite stylish. So, why not. In such a small room, it also works well in terms of heat.

Does the room get its own thermostat? Or does it just run along with the hallway?

Put it behind the sink, turn it on, shower, and then stand in front of it with your butt while shaving.

Besides, the room is hardly used for showering all the time, so the luxury of electric heating won’t become a money pit (apart from the initial extra costs).

Am I actually the only one who finds towel radiators totally fiddly, a pain to clean, and dispensable in terms of functionality?

I have had such radiators in apartments before and don’t have them anymore, but don’t miss them at all. The towels are hung on a holder (not on hooks) and dry without any problems. There is no heater nearby. If I imagine the holder hanging above a heater, which would probably be the case with underfloor heating, I would worry even less.

yes, the 0815 things are also fiddly, but ours is, for example, open on one side, so the towels can be pushed onto it sideways like on the usual holder.

Thank you already for the answers! For me, it is mainly about the function of the towel holder, since we would need some kind of fixture for it in the small WC anyway. And that way, we could install a towel radiator at the same time.

@toxi: To be honest, I don’t know if the WC will get a separate thermostat. As far as I know, every room gets a thermostat. I’ll have to check.

The position is basically already predetermined, since there is hardly any more space on the wall. We were just wondering whether we should also hang the sink on the side of the WC? Does that make sense? No idea?!

But we will definitely provide a socket for a towel radiator on the free wall! Such a towel radiator with a heating cartridge can certainly also be installed afterwards, right?
