Basic land tax amount comprehension question

No, the expectation was that the municipalities would raise the assessment rate before 25, so that they could then lower it to 25 and say, why, it’s revenue-neutral after all - haha, gotcha!

In that respect, Berlin’s announcement to actually lower it now is actually fair. And yes, I have already received the new property tax value for my condominium, and it is definitely higher. What that now means for the property tax with a 470% assessment rate I’ll have to see.

I refer again to my previous post. The municipalities have relatively few options to obtain additional money and have received many new tasks in recent years that need to be financed. Everyone is free to propose to their municipal council an increase in daycare fees or the closure of swimming pools or a reduction of public transport or ... instead of an increase in property tax.

Alright then, but with open cards after all and not with fake moves

The problem in a democracy is that it is rarely rewarded when someone plays with open cards. Open tax increases are just as unpopular as the abolition of subsidies. That is why people like to go into debt, and when that is not possible, politics resorts to such maneuvers. However, these are also problematic for a democracy because they imply the opposite of the responsible citizen.
