How large is the plot or the area to be filled? Depending on the size, several cubic meters will add up for a 30 cm filling height. Do you really want to wheel it later with the wheelbarrow, or should you rather have the topsoil delivered now?

if the thistles grow so strongly they were introduced from outside by seeds and this will also happen on the topsoil. Therefore, let everything grow and mow every few weeks. This helps the soil structure significantly more than any foil.

We live on the edge of the field, behind which there is a natural area allowed to regenerate. The weed pressure is high. We sowed a green manure as long as the soil did not have grass cover. It covers and nourishes the soil and dies back in winter. Initially, thistles still appeared, but they were actually easy to remove by digging them out. I covered the removed and stored topsoil on the side with an annual flower meadow for as long. It also simply looks nicer. Much success and joy with the plant diversity, Gabriele

I would sow cover crops (e.g. lupine) and then cut them down and leave them lying. The roots loosen the soil, which is naturally covered and fertilized.

Actually, my husband is also really excited about the idea of sowing green manure there now. We have very heavy clay soil. We are not familiar with green manure, but we have done some reading. We would loosen our soil with the garden tiller and then sow the green manure. Do you have any recommendations? It is about 200sqm. The weeds that grow in between can then be individually removed by stabbing them out. When do you mow everything down and can we leave the mowed material lying and simply cover it with topsoil?
