Hey,

I have a set with two of the aforementioned cameras. I had an electrician install an outlet in the eaves on each long side of the house. Now I am looking for a solution to ideally power the cameras directly through the outlets. I would still like to continue using the outlets as they are. One could certainly install a second outlet next to the existing one and use the same cable, like a kind of branching. However, the arlo has a relatively long power cable for outdoor use, which should ideally remain hidden. Anyone have an idea? Maybe something like an access panel so that the technology is located in the roof box....

Thanks for your ideas.

Of course you can tap off the junction box. How exactly you manage to do it as invisibly as possible depends on the conditions and the position. In new construction, you usually use IP cameras with POE and not wireless cameras with [Cloud].... The roof overhang is also much too high for surveillance and the cameras' detection probably only works suboptimally. If you have an empty conduit, better pull a LAN cable and sell the Arlos or use them elsewhere.

There is no empty conduit there... everything is already closed off....

I saw the Arlo with a colleague... and found it very suitable... also under the roof overhang, although overhang in the sense of being closed off is not the case for him.

I have about 3m height up to the roof overhang

3m are OK if you just want to see if something is there. You could simply build a junction box there and paint it similar to the color of the roof overhang. You could put the very long power supply cable coiled inside it. It's not pretty, but the entire solution isn't either.

The thing with the junction box is so ugly please don't. There are cable outlet boxes in every system and then you can connect the Arlo there directly. If you also need a socket there, just put a double box (1x socket, 1x cable outlet).

Of course it is ugly, very much so. But he has a toy camera with a 3-meter power cable and it has to go somewhere. He doesn’t want it just dangling around; he doesn’t want to see it. If you want to see nothing at all, you could possibly somehow bring the existing socket into the roof overhang (cut off the mounting plate all around), connect the power supply there, push the supply line inside, and close the hole somewhat neatly. That’s not clean either, but nicer than adding another flap at that spot. Normally, you would do this with a PoE cable and mount the camera directly on its outlet. But here, Arlo is desired.
