Would you like fences around your house/property and if so, why?

I am interested in your opinions about fences. Around our former house/property there were no fences/boundaries and we liked that very much. Unfortunately, at the new house/property there are fences of the neighbors on the left and right, which we naturally have to accept. Towards the back, facing the field, we will try to do without a fence, even if deer might occasionally stand on our property and nibble. ;-) Towards the front, facing the street, we will definitely not install a fence, unless it really cannot be avoided because strangers park on our property or dog owners use our property as a dog park, which, however, I do not expect.

What reasons do you have for putting up fences around your house/property or why do you do without fences? By the way, in our street all houses/properties are fenced in, so that seems to be favored by the majority. Nevertheless, I "dare" to conduct a survey.

By "fence" I mean boundaries of any kind, so also moats with drawbridge, walls, etc.

At the moment 100% are against fencing, but you know how surveys are. ;-)

So we don't want a fence, but all the neighboring neighbors want one. On the sides without neighbors, we will not make a fence, but a hedge. The front door will simply remain open. Everyone around us has their property completely fenced in and there is a locked gate at the front. Why they do it like that, I also wonder. Burglary protection?

As I said, with us it has to be because of the dog. I could do just a hedge, my wife can't. I think for most it's really something emotional. This is me marking my territory and this is mine. A bit of burglary protection or simply to prevent anyone, even accidentally, from walking onto the property. In some areas it is actually indispensable as protection against unleashed dogs. Otherwise, they poop everywhere.

We have a fence for the public stairs and as a fall protection on the retaining wall. At the parking lot, we have a wall. Everything is just under 1 m high and without plastic privacy screens.

I don't like fences, but they have to be made, many reasons, for example, I want to avoid landmines or because of small children from us/friends etc..
