Hello everyone,

I am interested in which devices you are currently using in the LAN/WLAN or what you think will be introduced in houses/rooms in the future, which I may not even be thinking of today.
Feel free to relate it to rooms/floors as well.

As an example, I take the washing machine, which may possibly be connected via LAN/WLAN in the future.

I look forward to your opinions.

A small list of what’s roaming around in my network: router, switch, NAS, Raspberry Pi (Pi-Hole and Unifi Controller), Homematic CCU2, network printer, Unifi Access Point, Alexa, PC, tablets, smartphones, TV

What could come in the near future: surveillance camera, door intercom system, inverter, wallbox, Fire-TV Stick or Chromecast, game console, internet radio, robot vacuum cleaner, ...

Looking further ahead, I generally see household appliances (even though there are already household appliances, I think that only the next or the one after next generation will really be smart.) Leisure devices like treadmill, roller trainer, rowing trainer, ... are increasingly online to be able to exercise virtually with or against others worldwide. All home technology like heating, ventilation, weather station. I believe in the future everything that somehow has a power cable will want to be connected to the network. Whether all of that makes sense, we will see.

To be well prepared for the future, I can only recommend preparing empty conduits. Then you can simply pull in whatever is needed whether copper, fiber, or something we don’t know yet today.

The washing machine is nothing new, networked or remotely controllable household appliances have long since arrived in everyday life and were integrated at least to the extent of being able to notify you, for example by message when the devices were finished, already over 10-15 years ago. However, this was rather not done via WLAN but with other radio protocols better suited for this purpose. Here with us, everything that seems somehow reasonable and adds value, meaning comfort, is connected to the home network. So that includes every window, lamps, switches, shutters, and thermostats.

...to consider with LAN/WLAN.....the coffee machine?

For me, it still beeps when the washing machine/dishwasher or similar device is finished or I know that I started the device. There aren’t that many devices running anyway.
I understand the development, but for most of these innovations I cannot recognize a noticeable added value that improves quality of life, that’s why I ask.
I want to understand it, because if I see the actual use in it, I’m the first to implement it. However, with coffee machines, washing machines, cooling devices, I lack the insight for that.
