Hello dear forum,
we have a Fritzbox 7590 as our router.
Now we have added an additional floor to our house and the WLAN no longer reaches upstairs.
What is best to install now to have proper WLAN on the upper floor as well?
PoE / LAN is available on the upper floor.
We do not want repeaters that plug into the power outlet.
Thank you very much for your help.
Best regards
Franzi

You can of course use a POE access point, but reading your question it seems to me that you have very little knowledge of the subject. But that's not a problem. Since you have a Fritzbox, I would go for an AVM repeater and connect it to the Fritzbox via LAN. This way you turn the repeater into an access point. For example, AVM Repeater 1200 AX for the socket or as a standalone device the 3000 AX. The advantage is that it is quite easy to set up and roaming works reasonably well since both are from AVM. AVM just doesn't have devices with POE power supply. Access points from other manufacturers do not work together with AVM devices in this respect. You can of course get them to work manually quite well, but you should have some knowledge of the subject. Alternatively, you can use a Fritzbox but completely outsource the WLAN to external devices. In my case, the WLAN on the router is off and APs from Unifi are used instead. It is a bit more complicated and also set up differently, especially because these devices offer many more configuration options.

Otherwise, he definitely wouldn't have asked the questions.

There is really nothing more to add to that. If you want to stick with the Fritzbox, repeaters via LAN make the most sense.

We also have a repeater (LAN) powered by a FRITZ!Box in the server cabinet, another router in the hallway on the ground floor (left over from the old house), and this repeater in the living room. That way we also have Wi-Fi on the terrace and in the garden. What speaks against it because you say you don't want a device in the socket? Then there is actually only the access point via POE. But it probably isn't available?

Do you still have an old Fritzbox? You can very easily reconfigure it as a repeater. If not, you could implement the solution from with an AVM Repeater 1200 AX. Otherwise, you might consider the AVM Repeater 3000 AX or Repeater 6000 if you want a bit more performance.
