[A QUOTE="ToNKeY, post: 100895, member: 18301"]A second thought that always plagues me is also: If you can already tell from the outside that the house is extraordinarily well secured, it might actually attract burglars even more because they think there is especially much to get there.[/QUOTE] An opportunistic burglar probably not so much. Allegedly, burglars are already deterred if all the houses in the neighborhood have signs like "Watchful Neighbor" posted, which the police like to distribute. Then reportedly the assumption on the part of the shady characters is that the police have advised all the people on the street and usually the people have also made this or that thing safer. As a burglar, you would rather go a few streets further where that is not the case. Whether a sign really has such an effect, I of course cannot judge. At least the police have noted it that way. One more remark about the garbage bin as a climbing aid: It doesn’t have to be the garbage bin itself that serves as a starting point for a break-in on the upper floor. Usually, they are too low for that. But with the help of the bin, you can get onto the garage, from there onto the roof, the balcony, etc., and then a burglar might have access from there to windows and doors that are neglected in terms of security. In my case, it was the window for the chimney sweep's exit all the way up on the roof that was used by burglars as an access point to the attic and from there via the loft ladder to the first floor. Even the police hadn’t seen that very often.

Piercing the frame or the glass, inserting a wire, wrapping the handle, opening the window.

It is correct that the standard initially only requires that the tested element withstands an attack described in the standard with specified tools for a certain period. Nothing more, nothing less. If there were a window made of chocolate that passes the test, it would be "RC2." In practice, however, certain constructive details have proven to be effective in meeting the standard (chocolate is not one of them). Therefore, AFAIK you will not find an RC2 window without drill protection.

Lockable handles are, AFAIK, explicitly required and mandatory for all classes according to DIN EN 1627.

In addition, from RC2 on, installation according to the manufacturer's specifications with backing blocks, tested masonry anchors, etc. (only if "tested/certified" according to DIN EN 1627 is required). <== There are quite different opinions about this here in the forum.

My recommendation, considering cost/benefit for normal private households or expensive household goods, would therefore be to ask the trusted joiner about "windows with fittings based on RC2."

We had a consultation appointment at the police. A window with a stuck key or knob doesn’t help much. However, you can place/hang the key at some distance so that you cannot reach it through a broken window.

In our district, there have been some burglaries with broken windows, where the window was then opened via the handle, but in recent years hardly any cases where entry was made through the broken window.

And, what was much more important to me: There were attempted burglaries that were aborted when the window could not be opened.

Edit: Also, you should make sure that it does not say "like RC2," that could mean anything, but that the certification is explicitly indicated. However, there are many smaller manufacturers who cannot afford the standard. With the offer, you can gladly go to the police and ask if it is acceptable.

Above all, there are supposed to be builders who cannot afford certified windows. We receive windows with fittings and handles "like WK2" (the carpenter and especially the developer consistently uses WK instead of RC). I am satisfied with this because it allows us to make the best out of limited capital.
