yes, we are high enough. The issue of sunlight is just bothering us because I fear it could get very dark. We are in the countryside, so the bike path is rather less busy

Your main concern seems to be the shadow cast by the neighboring buildings. To get an idea of this, one would need to know the size of the plots and what building heights etc. are allowed in the development plan. Then you could play around with worst-case scenarios – like garages on the boundaries, etc. Nobody can give you information about this otherwise.

Shade is not inherently bad - in summer people pay a lot for shade. In addition, one becomes somewhat freer in mind when considering the possibility of at least one more terrace in a different location on the premises.
