By publishing the plans. Or if you have already seen the cavity, for example during window replacement. The normal case in old buildings is 3-4 cm if there is only one air layer. According to the standard, 15 cm is currently the maximum – but then with core insulation. What is your total wall thickness? From that, the thickness of the air layer can possibly also be derived. You could, for example, also have a Lippisches Luftmauerwerk with a total thickness of about 31-33 cm. That would actually be the only possible reason from the past to have such a strong air layer.

That is strange, as already mentioned, I was present during the drillings, but I will check again during the window replacement.
According to the construction description, it is a cavity wall 36.5 cm thick.

Nothing else can be seen in the plan either:

I quote myself from the presumed crosspost:

Windows are drawn in the plan, whose installation position would lie in the plane of the air gap (?)

That only helps you to a limited extent (the installation position of the window is of course interesting) – you can take a look at the existing windows to see how they are installed. Here are two more examples of how it was commonly built in the past: This is 36.5 cm with pumice and an 11.5 cm facing shell without an air layer from the mid-60s (according to the building description, however, hollow bricks...). Extension on the same house from 1980: 36.5 cm actually made of hollow bricks, but with 3 cm insulation before the facing brick comes. So 24 cm hollow bricks + 3 cm insulation + 11.5 cm facing brick. Please don’t be surprised, these are not 36.5 cm then.
