We have transferred our [riestervetrags guthaben] into our financing.

However, we calculated this precisely beforehand; especially the future [wohnförderkontostand].

We are still working on the topic of [rlv]. It will probably result in me taking out a policy for the full loan amount with a decreasing sum over 30 years. (I am also the main earner)

It is a bit more complicated for my wife. Due to medical history, there will be surcharges or a limited selection of insurance companies.

The goal will be either 50% of the loan amount and decreasing or 100k fixed.

RLV as the sole earner exists with us, but by no means for the entire loan amount and also not decreasing. The former, because it is illusory - if I should die, the insurance sum is enough to raise the children or to move into an apartment without compulsion. The latter, because it practically made no difference in the premium and therefore made no sense.

I think you can't generally say that a BU is more important than a UV. If you do winter sports and have to be rescued from the slope, it can get really expensive without UV.

You should also always check whether the employer offers a BU. They are often cheaper.

It may be that accident insurance (UV) is more important for an athlete than for a non-athlete. However, that does not mean the rescue from the slope with subsequent medical repatriation. Although that may be expensive, it is unlikely to be ruinous, especially since it may even be covered multiple times by foreign health insurance or ADAC membership. On the other hand, the permanent loss of your own ability to work resulting from the accident is probably not so easily compensated. That is where disability insurance (BU) is important or, additionally, an accident pension (UV pension). But disability insurance (BU) covers far more outages than accident insurance (UV). Each person has to assess the ratio of UV to BU according to their personal risk. As a non-athlete and office worker, my risk lies more in illness-related absence. Accident-wise, my risk is still most likely in road traffic, although I drive relatively few kilometers. So my focus is on disability insurance (BU). The athlete should perhaps weight the ratio more towards accident insurance (UV). But you should not omit disability insurance (BU).

There are some insurers that offer applications for RLV with simplified health questions within a certain period after taking out a mortgage. Maybe you are lucky and the questions in one of the applications suit her so that coverage without a surcharge is possible.

But that is a topic for (foreign) health insurance and not accident insurance.

If you look at the statistics, very, very few become unable to work due to an "accident."

Accident insurance, however, is easier to obtain than disability insurance and also cheaper. You can at least cover a small risk area with it.
