Hello,
... The seller of our home builder advises us to use a gas heating system. However, prices for gas or oil are rising. Geothermal energy should pay off in the long run, right?
Basically, prices for
all energy sources increase in the long term. One year gas prices rise more sharply, the next year the electricity for heat pumps or the price for pellets. Gas is very often recommended by home builders because less can go wrong here (planning/dimensioning), whereas heat pumps require especially precise calculations (ventilation, heating load, room heating load, heating surfaces, hydraulics); otherwise, they do not achieve the projected annual performance factor and thus the initially very high investment is not offset by correspondingly low operating costs.
However, there is also a significant downside with gas: Usually, a solar thermal system, which is uneconomical for a single-family house, must be purchased as well (EEWG).
There is no blanket "pro" or "con," but rather the specific conditions are always crucial.
However, one thing is certain: the best energy is the energy that is not needed in the first place. => Reduce demand! This applies to
all heating alternatives!
If the heating energy demand is accordingly low, the technical solution is usually cheaper due to the reduced heating load.
Kind regards
