When did you install the front door?

Hello, I have a question. When was the front door installed at your place? The background is that we are building with a general contractor (GU) and have removed the front door because we want an aluminum door. The GU only offers wooden doors. We start construction on Monday and our GU said that we should order the front door now so that it can be installed in 5 weeks (completion of the shell construction). Now that I've thought about it, I wonder if that makes sense? Installing the new door so early? I mean, many craftsmen will still be coming and going and apart from the shell, nothing else is done yet. Therefore, the question is whether it is common for a front door to be installed so early. I have also often seen that initially only the frame of the actual front door is set and the door leaf is temporarily replaced with a rough construction door. How was it with you?

Hi,

we also removed doors and windows and procured them elsewhere.
In our case, the front doors were installed at the same time as the windows (after completion of the shell construction), but without the final door panels (in their place was a simple wooden board).

The real door panels were only installed once the construction work was finished, so that no damage would occur beforehand.

In any case, doors and windows must be installed before starting with the installations, so that the house can be locked. There are plenty of thieves who move from site to site and plunder the materials!

Ok, thanks that means the actual door frame + possibly side panel has already been installed by you and then a wooden infill instead of the actual door.

We received the front door shortly before the screed was laid - before that, a construction door was installed.

Nevertheless, unfortunately, we now have a dent in the frame - luckily, it is hardly noticeable.

You can also work the screed onto the door afterwards and thus wait until just before the tiling, but that is also patchwork and requires increased coordination of the construction work.

I would lock the door, cover it with foil, and assign the craftsmen another entrance (if possible).

Another way will not work for us, then you would always have to slide down the entire slope

Ok, but if I understand correctly, then I would have the frame of the door + side panel installed first (kept well packed) and replace the actual door leaf with a construction wood door. Right? I would rather not have the real door installed yet, because I also think too much can still happen.

Yes, that's how I would do it too. However, you still won't be able to prevent someone from hitting it - unfortunately, that can always happen.
